Please share a memory of Lenore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lenore Herma (Kemling) Sears, 94, passed away on February 14, 2022, in Morristown.  Born to Herman and Bertha (Gille) Kemling on November 21, 1927, in Hackensack, Lenore spent her childhood growing up with her younger sister, Florence, in Carlstadt.  After graduating from East Rutherford High School in 1945, Lenore worked in a physician’s office in a job she loved.  On May 7, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Wilmington “Bill” Sears, and a year later they built their first house in Wood-Ridge where they lived for 23 years. When Bill took over Carlstadt Electric Company, Lenore became the bookkeeper for the business that continued until their retirement. In 1973 the family moved to Blairstown, and four years later, Lenore realized her dream of becoming a nurse and worked as an LPN for Warren County Day Training and later for Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice.

Lenore was a member of the First Presbyterian Churches of Wood-Ridge and Blairstown where she served on the Deacons and Presbyterian Women.  She was an active community volunteer, enjoying her time as a Brownie leader and later a Cub Scout den mother. She loved cooking, crossword, and iPad puzzles, reading, sewing quilts, and crocheting.  She knit for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and sent dozens of sweaters to the Guideposts Knitting Project and other programs.  In retirement, Lenore and Bill moved to Belvidere, spent time in Florida, and traveled extensively in the US and Europe.  They were each other’s best friends and shared over 55 beautiful years of marriage together until Bill passed away in 2005.  Lenore moved to the House of the Good Shepherd in Hackettstown where she has made her home for the past eight years.  While there she has enjoyed being active in the resident council, bell choir, and book club and has treasured the many friendships she has made.

Most important of all to Lenore were her family and friends.  She leaves behind  four children and four more by marriage, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren: daughter, Lorelei, and Kurt Oelschlager, and their children, Erica, Ethan (Stephanie and children, Claire and Bastian), and Susanna (Chris and children, Carter and Myka); daughter, Marsha, and Steve Terwilleger, their son, Mark (Holly and children, Harper and Hudson); son, Paul, and Kate McGarvey, their children Julie (Kevin and son, Patrick), Kenneth (Tina), and Kiera; son, Scott, and Tina, and their children, Gwendolyn and Maxwell.  In addition, she is survived by her sister, Florence (husband, Wesley died in 1996) and her brother-in-law Ray and Cindy Sears, their children Jeff (Donna and children, Derek and Austin) and Stephanie (Lin and children, Brennan and Jaelen).

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Blairstown (PO Box 385, Blairstown, NJ 07825) or The Shepherds Fund (House of the Good Shepherd, 798 Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840).
