Obituary of John Terry Baum Sr.

John Terry Baum, Sr. 86 years of age, a resident of Frelinghuysen Township, NJ passed away December 15, 2021. He was a Veteran, serving as a Marine during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, he drove a truck then went on to join the Hillside Police Department where he served for 27 years, retiring in 1990. During his career he received 41 letters of commendation, five Excellent Police Service Awards, the Valor Award and the Combat Cross. After retiring, he continued to work part time as a Security Guard for the Newton Social Security Office.

John was an avid hunter, an expert mechanic, and a handyman always taking on any type of project at home. He was known as a family man, great husband, father, grandfather and friend. John enjoyed reading books on history and driving across the country on family vacations to visit many landmarks and historical sites. John lived a full life and will always be remembered as a giving man putting others first. He was an extraordinary individual.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen (Switana) Baum, 2 daughters, Deborah Baum, Karen Reddick and her husband Christopher, a son John T. Baum, Jr and his wife Erika, five grandchildren John and his wife Leanne, Joseph, Jacqueline, Victoria, Christopher and a great grand-daughter Giannina.

Memorial mass will be at 11:00AM on January 14, 2022 at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, 7 Eisenhower Rd., Blairstown, NJ with inurnment following at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Airport Road, Andover, NJ under the direction of Newbaker Funeral Home 200 Rt. 94, Blairstown, NJ 07825.
