Obituary of Nicholas John Occhifinto
Nicholas John Occhifinto, 73 years of age, a resident of Blairstown NJ, passed away in Hackettstown, NJ on December 9, 2021. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 2,1948 to Gerard and Fay (Mitchell) Occhifinto.
He had a B.A. in Major Mathematics from Fordham University, followed by a MBA in Accounting from Pace University. He started off as a teacher of Mathematics before becoming a Controller at Crown Publishing Group where he met and married his wife, Alison in 1984. After Crown he was the Chief Financial Officer for Friedman/Fairfax Publishers, Inc. and then Vice President of Barnes & Noble Publishing. He then worked for Black Dog and Leventhal as the Chief Financial Officer. After he retired he continued to do consultant work for other publishers including Workman publishing, Page Street Publishing, Shelter Harbor Press Publishing, Bookmonger ltd, and Mark A. Adams Inc. He was also an adjunct Professor and taught accounting at Centenary College for 16 years and then at NJIT for about 8 years where he was nominated as adjunct Professor of the year. On the side he did taxes for his family and friends. He was a trustee at Knowlton United Methodist Church and was in charge of the yearly fundraiser for the church where they ran the concession stand at Wilbur’s Country Craft Fair for many years.
Nick was a lover of animals, especially dogs and horses, enjoyed splitting wood for his fireplace and he enjoyed being outside where he would smoke cigarettes and drink beer. He was an avid reader and his favorites were mysteries, especially Agatha Christie, The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings. He also enjoyed old monster movies, Star Wars, ET, Midsomer Murders, survival shows, murder mystery shows and old black and white TV shows and movies.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Alison Anne Occhifinto, three daughters, Ashley Elizabeth Vandenberg, husband Alan, Carly Dorothy Occhifinto, husband Andrew Harrison, Ali Fay Occhifinto, a sister Tina Bini, two nephews, Anthony Cirillo, wife Valerie, Brian Bini, a great nephew Nicholas Cirillo and great niece Lia Cirillo.
A visitation will take place from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown, NJ 07825. A funeral service at 11AM Thursday, December 16, 2021, Knowlton United Methodist Church, 509 Route 94, Knowlton Township, NJ 07832.
