Kathryn Shortway

Obituary of Kathryn Ribakusky Shortway

Please share a memory of Kathryn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathryn Ribakusky Shortway, 91, passed peacefully in her sleep on November 24th. She lived a full and wonderful life. She was born and raised her family in Wayne and eventually settled in Blairstown.
As Kathryn enters heaven, she will be met by her parents, Howard and Martha Ribakusky, her first born son, Thomas and her three siblings, Howard (Buster) Ribakusky, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Corio and John (Jack) Ribakusky.
Kathryn leaves lots of love and happy memories to her children, Daniel and wife Laura Shortway, Mary Lavin, Martin and wife Mary Shortway, Teresa Shortway and Paul Shortway.
Grandma, as they call her, leaves eight precious grandchildren; Dan, Jim, Jenn, Kristy, Kelly, Adam, Chris and Krystal. She was also known as G.G. to her nine great-grandchildren, Madeline (Eddie), Shane, Derick, Ryan, Alex, Wyatt, Aubrey, Jaxon and Arya. G.G. always asked for one more hug, which her great-grandchildren happily gave.
Kathryn spent many years working as a department manager at Grants Department Store and then at Rickel’s Home Improvement Store. Later she worked as an inspector at Howmet in Dover, inspecting parts for airplanes and NASA rockets. She would proudly talk about the time she met an astronaut at work.
Kathryn was a member of St. Jude’s Church in Blairstown and volunteered at a local nursing home after retirement.  She was a longtime member of the Knowlton/Blairstown Seniors and enjoyed many a good day playing cards with friends.
The most important things in Kathryn’s life were God, family and ice cream.
Please know that she loved us all and hopes that we will cherish the memories we shared, as she cherished each of us. She hopes that you will think of her each fall as you make your first batch of Meatball Soup of the season, and on Sunday morning when you fry pork roll, and on Thanksgiving as you take your first bite of apple pie and of course you will think of her whenever you eat ice cream. If you are crying while reading this; you already know that she loved you best.
A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers please donate to any autism awareness fundraiser in your community.
Arrangements are entrusted to Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown, NJ 07825
