Obituary of Redempta Gwynne
M. REDEMPTA GWYNNE
Redempta (Dearing) Gwynne, 83 years of age, a longtime resident of Blairstown NJ, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 10, 1938 in Louisville, KY to John and Mary Rose (Wirth) Dearing.
She graduated from Loretto High School and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Education. Teaching was her passion and she became a respected Elementary Teacher for 15 years in El Paso, TX, Santa Clara, CA and Parsippany, NJ at the Rockaway Meadow School. She was an excellent teacher of young children and was featured in a video showing an elementary school teacher in action. She was subsequently chosen as their Teachers Union Representative.
Redempta returned to teaching as her children grew older, and taught pre-school in Hackettstown and as a substitute in Blairstown and surrounding elementary schools. She blended her love of teaching with her spiritual life at St. Jude Church, Blairstown, where she was instrumental in starting the first CCD classes. As a parent, she was involved in Blairstown Elementary School, where she was instrumental in forming the gifted and talented program. After teaching, Redempta was a respected Realtor for 36 years, achieving a lifetime membership in the NJ Realtors Circle of Excellence, becoming a member of the Warren County Board of Realtors, and eventually achieving her Real Estate Brokers License and Instructor Designation. She was a well-known and respected Realtor for Burgdorff ERA in Hope, NJ and many clients benefited from her hard work and dedication. . What she loved most about Real Estate was getting to know people and helping them through the complexities of buying and selling their homes.
While teaching at Rockaway Meadow she met and married her husband of 53 years, Arthur. She described their meeting as Providential and their love never faltered, often calling each other “My Love for Life”. Redempta’s biggest passion was her family to whom she devoted her life and heart. They were always on her mind. She is survived by her loving family, husband Arthur and her six children Amanda Danzi husband Michael, Cynthia Redwood husband Jason, Jill Velcko husband Ray, Carole Hofmann husband Michael, Brian Gwynne wife Linea and Mark Gwynne wife Tiki and 20 grandchildren Kimberly, Kristen, Kara, Greg, Alanna, Melissa, Mathew, Erin, Lindsey, Kelly, Chris, Raine, Shaun, Caitlin, Nathan, Justin, Zak, Brenna, Taylor and Becca. Also 13 great grandchildren Julia, Sal, Anna, Julian, Sam, Mikayla, Addie, Landon, Camryn, Leah, Connor, Chasen, Carson. And even with such a large family she never missed a birthday. She is also survived by 3 brothers John Dearing wife Alice, James Dearing wife Sharon, Frank Dearing wife Shirley.
Redempta was a Strong, Passionate and Determined woman and it showed in everything she did. She applied that same passion to family life. She passed on her love of art, both classic and children’s art, to her children and grandchildren, taking them to New York to experience the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural History, Broadway plays and more. She loved her family and her home which included tending to her organic garden, before organic was popular, and there was always a wonderful cooked meal ready for visitors. Guests who came to her home always commented about it being a warm and inviting place, as indeed it was, and that was Redempta.
Visitation will be held 2-4PM and 6-8PM, Thursday November 11, 2021 at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown, NJ 07825 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30, Friday, November 12, 2021 at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, 7 Eisenhower Road, Blairstown, NJ 07825, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Rd., E. Hanover, NJ 07930.
