Jean Emily (McNeill) Hayes, 92, of Hardwick, NJ, passed away on May 4, 2021 in Hardwick. Jean was born in Mendham, NJ to William and Emma (Sweeney) McNeill on December 16, 1928. She was the youngest of five children. Raised in her beloved hometown of Mendham, she attended the local schools and graduated from Morristown High School in 1946. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at Metropolitan Life Insurance in Morristown for 18 years. In 1951, she married John Hayes and moved to Chester, NJ, where she resided for the next 20 years. In 1971, the family relocated to Blairstown, where she was a homemaker, and also worked as a real estate agent for Blair Reality and as a dispatcher for the Blairstown Police Department. She retired in 1986 and spent her retirement years in both St. Petersburg, FL and in the Blairstown area. Jean had many interests. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. During her time in St. Petersburg, she attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School. She also attended the Evangelical Free Church of Blairstown. In her later years she was a member of the Hardwick Seniors group, which she greatly enjoyed. Jean is survived by her son John and daughter-in-law Eileen of Hardwick, and by her grandchildren - Erin Hayes of Bloomsbury, and Kelly and John W. Hayes, both of Hardwick. She is also survived by her sister Marion Brown of Allamuchy, NJ, her sister-in-law Elizabeth Hayes of Loveland, CO as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1994. No Funeral service will be held at this time, but memorial donations may be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860.
