Type Obit Here Ann Carol Leal, age 88, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her family, on February 2nd, 2021. She was born on August 4, 1932 to Mary E. & Thomas L. Steele in Albany, New York. She was raised in Staten Island, NY, as the fourth of seven siblings. She graduated valedictorian from St. Peter's Catholic Girls High School Class of 1950. She went on to secretarial school and met her future husband, Paul J. Leal, at her 1st secretarial job in NYC. They were married in 1953. Together they had 7 children. She is predeceased by her husband and two children. She lived independently and continued to raise her five children as well as caring for her elderly in laws in Frelinghuysen, New Jersey. She was an avid, voracious reader, loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. She spent a lifetime enjoying her extended family through many and frequent family gatherings. She became a grandmother as her family grew. She has eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren with two more on the way and she LOVED spending time with all of them. In addition, Ann Carol was employed by the Frelinghuysen Elementary School Board of Education for 30 years. She rarely missing a day of work as Administrative Assistant to the Chief School Administrator. She is widely known both in her extended family and in the larger community for her gracious, calming demeanor, her caring motherly nature & her genuine sense of good humor. She always had a smile and brought joy to all who knew her. Ann Carol is survived by her brother John G. Steele from Staten Island, NY, her five children, P. Jonathan Leal, Karen & husband Joseph Gorrie, Bruce & wife Lisa Leal, Kenneth & wife Catherine Leal and Tracy & husband Thomas Quinn. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul Leal, Stefan Leal, Maria and husband Will Habermann, Stephanie and husband Jaime Garbutt, Michaela Leal, Kevin & wife Alyssa, Ryan & fiancé Suzanne, Rory & wife De'Enna Quinn, Candace & husband Wes Rivero, Julia & husband Stephen Williams, and Aubrey & fiancé Renato Portovedo. In addition, she is survived by her six great grandchildren, Ella & Ariele Garbutt, Emilia & Stefan Habermann, Frances Williams and Einin Quinn. She loved and touched all of us deeply. A Mass of visitation & celebration will be held on Monday February 8th, 2021 with visitation in the back of the church from 11:15 to 12 and a Mass of Celebration beginning at 12 noon at St. Jude's RC Church, Eisenhower Road in Blairstown, NJ. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Paul Jay Leal at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Blairstown, NJ.
