Dolores Baker

Obituary of Dolores Baker

Columbia, NJ-Dolores May Baker (née Bannat) died on Friday, December 25, 2020, after a valiant struggle with a long illness. She was 90. Born on January 3, 1930, in West New York, Dolores lived in the Milton section of Jefferson Twp. for 55 years, before moving to Warren County. She was a beloved long time resident of Clover Rest Home. Dolores was employed as an executive secretary with a life insurance company in New York City, prior to her marriage. On June 17, 1951, she married Gordon R. Baker, of Jersey City. She then settled in Milton as a homemaker, before co-owning and working at Berkshire Venetian Blind Co., retiring in 1983. Dolores was an active member of Jefferson Rotary Anns, serving her community for many years. On any given fall Saturday afternoon, you would always find Dolores watching college football. She was an avid fan, especially cheering for Annapolis (Go NAVY, beat ARMY!). Dolores loved to go on cruises, camping with her family from Nova Scotia to the Florida keys, dancing (Original Rudy's), all her pet dogs, and cooking. She made the best venison dishes. She was truly a very loving person, always smiling, always complimenting people. Dolores was predeceased by her husband in 1996 and her son, Charles G. Baker, in 2015. She is survived by her son, Howard R. Baker (Mary), of Pawleys Island, S.C., her daughter-in-law, Beverly Baker, of Millville, PA., her two granddaughters, who were "the lights of her life", Heather Elepano (Richard), of Long Valley, N.J., and Lindsay Avery (Chris), of Malvern, PA., and three great grandsons, who she so cherished. Burial was private, entrusted to Newbaker Funeral Home, Blairstown, N.J. She was laid to rest with her husband at Oak Ridge Presbyterian Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
