Obituary of Christopher J. Carmeci

Christopher J Carmeci, 81 years of age, of Knowlton Township, NJ, died on May 5th at his home. Born in Cliffside Park, NJ on December 25th, 1930, he was a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (De Chiro) Carmeci. Mr Carmeci was the retired (2005) proprietor of Chris Carmeci Fencing in Knowlton Township, which he had established in 1991. He had earlier ( 1958-1986) been the proprietor of Silver Steel Fence Company in West New York, NJ. He had served in the United States Army from 1948-1952, having been a member of the Army of Occupation of Japan. Chris was a Democratic leader in North Bergen County during the 1960s and 1970s. He was a coach of North Bergen Little League Baseball and he served as North Bergen Township Clerk from 1979-82. After his move to Knowlton Township, he was a member of the Knowlton Republican Club and he served as Deputy Mayor. He also was a member of the Knowlton Seniors and a member of the Knowlton Presbyterian Church from 1987-2008, having served on the Diaconal Committee. Mr Carmeci was currently a member of the Knowlton United Methodist Church. Mr Carmeci is survived by his loving family; his wife of 33 years, the former Maureen McGuire, two daughters, Kim Tighe and her husband, Douglas, and Laureen Tullo and her husband, Richard, grandsons, Craig, Christopher and Thomas Tighe, granddaughters, Laureen Barnhurst and husband, Brian, and Kristin, Jillian and Danielle Tullo, sons, Todd Van Aken and his wife, Jennifer, and Robert Van Aken and one brother, Placid Carmeci and his wife, Joan, of Hackettstown, NJ. Also many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, May 10th at Knowlton United Methodist Church, 509 Rt 94, Knowlton Township. Vistitations at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Rt 94, Blairstown, on Tuesday from 7-9:00PM and Wednesday from 2-4:00PM amd 7-9:00PM.
