Frank Cook

Obituary of Frank H Cook

Frank passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at his winter home in De Leon Springs, Florida at the age of 76. He was born on January 19, 1944 to Frank C. and Ruth Baldwin Cook in Newton, New Jersey. Frank graduated from Blairstown High School as a member of the Class of 1962 and married his high school sweetheart, Sharon "Sis" Davitt Cook shortly thereafter. On April 18, 2019 they celebrated fifty-five years of marriage. After graduating from Blairstown High, Frank attended Churchman's Business College in Easton, Pennsylvania. Frank enlisted in the United States Army and served our Nation from 1964 until 1966. During his service, Frank was primarily stationed in Hanaou, Germany, with Sis. There they traveled around Europe after Frank fixed up an old Ford. Extremely dedicated to the Blairstown community and a natural leader, Frank volunteered a substantial amount of his time to public service. Frank was a member of Blairstown Hose Company #46 for fifty-three years serving as both Chief and Secretary during his tenure. He was the oldest living Past Master of the Blairstown Masonic Lodge #165. And he served on the Blairstown Elementary Board of Education for twenty-nine years, eighteen of those years as president, and loved every minute. An outstanding athlete, Frank played basketball, soccer, and baseball in high school and on numerous Blairstown recreational softball teams: K&S, The Press, Cook Bros. and the Ranges Raiders into his forties. He also coached several youth teams. He loved "his" Boston Red Sox. Frank was also an avid outdoorsman; he was often found fishing the Paulinskill, deer hunting at the family cabin in Bradford County, or turkey hunting on his property in Blairstown, Overlook Farm. He passed this tradition of hunting and fishing on to his children and grandchildren. Frank was a partner at the Cook Bros Garage and John Deere Shop for many years with his father and brother. He was an incredibly talented mechanic and would not drive anything but a Ford. After selling the garage, Frank became the Public Works Director of Blairstown Township for nearly twenty years, retiring in 2004. He knew every road in Blairstown like the back of his hand. Frank was so very loved by his family and friends and will be incredibly missed. He left a huge mark on Blairstown and all of our hearts. He had grit, intelligence, and a charismatic personality that will transcend time. It is an understatement to say we are lucky to have had him in our lives and to have known such a great man. Frank is survived by his ever-loving wife Sharon; sister Francis "Carol" Cook; daughter Valerie Reynolds and husband James Reynolds; son Douglas Cook and wife Nicole Cook; and six grandchildren: Zakary and Makenzie Smith, Brooke Reynolds, and Davinn, Logan, and Lane Cook. He was predeceased by his parents and beloved daughter Sondra "Sondi" Cook Smith and his faithful brother G. Richard "Dick" Cook. Arrangements will be held at Newbaker's Funeral Home, but attendance has been limited to immediate family due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Condolences can be sent to Newbaker's Funeral Home; or as an alternative to condolences, please donate to Blairstown Hose Company, the Blairstown Volunteer Ambulance Corp, or the Blairstown Masonic Lodge #165. A future Memorial Service will be announced when the COVID-19 pandemic is contained, and social distancing measures have been reduced. We thank you for your thoughts—for now, raise your glass in honor of our Hank.
