Obituary of Elaine Smithson
Elaine Virginia Smithson (Hogan), Elaine, 71, of Hardwick, NJ formerly a resident of Rochester, NY for 35
years, passed on July 15, 2018 after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Louis J. Rossi and her step-children, Laura Norris and husband Mike and Louis M. Rossi and wife Christine, four grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Norris,
Madeline and Henry Louis Rossi, four cousins, a brother, Paul Hogan, residing in NC.
She was born in Geneva, NY on December 18, 1946, the daughter of Walker M. Hogan and Ruth Pray Hogan.
She was an enthusiastic outdoors woman, backpacking and a member of the Genesee Valley Hiking Club, Rochester, NY, climbing many of the high peaks (207) in the Adirondacks and in the Alps in Croatia. She was a bicyclist, runner, kayaker and a cross-country skier. She was a fine arts B & W photographer with many of her photographs in private and corporate collections, winning the Award of Excellence WXXI Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase (1990).
She was a patron of the arts and had a fine collection of oil paintings, water colors, sculptures and photography. Her remains will be interred in her beloved Mt. Hope Cemetery where she spent many happy hours, walking, running, bicycling and taking photographs.
She was a voracious reader, gourmet cook and world traveler.
