Obituary of Thomas Petterson

Tom S. Petterson, 68 years of age, of Blairstown, NJ, passed away on May 11, 2018 in Denville, NJ.

He was born in Paterson, NJ on August 30, 1949 to John and Ruth Petterson. He was self employed at

Timber Line, LLC, Kenvil, NJ. Tom was a graduate of Ridgewood High School where he played soccer and was President of his class at Fairleigh Dickenson University. He began his teaching career at Middletown HS and coached soccer there. After leaving teaching he started TimberLine stoves in Connecticut and moved his operation to NJ which is still in business today.He is a past member of the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club where he crewed on many E Scow sailboats.After retiring from the Yacht Club Tom purchased a Jersey Speed Skiff racing it up and down the east coast and into Canada even after his diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He won many championships culminating in 2016 with the coveted National High Point Championship. The statement "it takes a village" certainly pertains to his National Championship win.Many of his fellow racers generously donated their time to bring about this highly sought after title. 2017 unfortunately was for him his final year of racing but he won the region 3 high point championship despite his deteriorating condition. As one person stated "he was tougher than a $4 steak." Boat racing and the racing family were the foundation of his joy he lived to race and loved his family it kept him going when the going got tough.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years Juanita, his adored daughter Tamara, mother Ruth, and many many relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his sister Judy.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 – 6 PM, June 2, 2018 at Just A Mere Farm, 32 Maple Lane, Blairstown, NJ 07825. The Celebration is being held in an indoor riding arena with sand footing.
