Obituary of Edmond C Mathez

Edmond A Mathez, 95 years of age, of Knowlton Township, NJ, died at his home on April 17th, 2011. Born in Englewood, NJ, he was a son of the late Emmanuel and Caroline Mathez. Edmond graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1937 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and started work for the New Jersey Zinc Company in Palmerton, PA. Although he had a deferment from the draft as an engineer in an essential industry, Edmond enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant ,overseeing deep sea salvage operations in the Pacific and received the Bronze Star as well as other commendations. On August 7, 1943, he married Muriel Albigese, who died in 2008. An avid sportsman, Edmond enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, skiing and playing tennis and hockey. He was a member of many sports, outdoors and environmental organizations. He spent many hours fixing his 1953 MG TD. He greatly loved the many dogs he had over his lifetime. Edmond was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Edmond is survived by his loving family, two sons, Rene, of Knowlton Township, NJ , and Edmond A of Nyack, NY, a daughter, Yvonne Mathez of Belvidere, NJ, and five grandchildren Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday, April 28th, at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Rt 94, Blairstown, NJ. A Graveside Service and interment will be held at 10:30AM, Friday, April 29th at Indiantown Gap Veterans Cemetery, Indiantown Gap, PA.
