Raymond A. Lomax passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021, at the age of 75 after a long illness.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Ray grew up in Livingston and graduated from Livingston High School and Central College in Pella, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts. He continued and received his Master’s Degree from Montclair State University in Education Administration. Ray spent many years in high school and college working for the Livingston Recreation and Parks Department. He was the Program Director at the West Essex YMCA in Livingston when the current facility first opened establishing the original programs and aquatics for many years. Ray was very active in the Livingston Kiwanis Club and community events. He was also a very active Sports Official for Baseball, Softball, Swimming, Track and Field, Cross Country, Volleyball, and Tennis for over 52 years from grade school through college level sports. In his free time he was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed watching baseball and college and professional football games. In his final years he was a resident of Jefferson, NJ.
Ray leaves behind his children Timothy Lomax, Scott Lomax and daughter Sandi Kirshen and her husband Ames and grandchildren Jake and Dylan Kirshen. He is survived by his sisters Sue Ann Whisman, Nancy L. Gray and brother Kenneth A. Lomax and his wife Robyn as well as many nieces and nephews. Ray also leaves behind very close companions Janet Lynn Heise and Lois Sadowski and their families. Raymond was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Leona (Folkner) Lomax.
