I could not stay another day, To love, to laugh, to work or play; Tasks left undone must stay that way. And if my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. Bernadette (Canning) Simon, age 93, passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2020. Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, Bernie grew up on Meehan's Row and married U.S. Navy Seaman Marvin Simon at St. Columb's Catholic Church on Chapel Road, the same road where she and Marvin summered each year until her untimely passing. Bernie is survived by her husband of almost 71 years, Marvin, daughter Bernadette and son-in-law Donnie, grandson Shaun, his wife Jacklyn and their wee'ins, Aiden (15), Ashton (11), and Emerson (7), and grandson Patrick, his wife Melissa and their wee'ins Patrick (6) and Sam (1). Bernie's life was full of wonderful joys and memories while living in South Carolina, California, Hawaii, Germany, Japan, Scotland, Maryland and Virginia before retiring in Blairstown, New Jersey with Marvin. She had a love for faith and fashion, but her biggest love was for her family. Her wee'ins remember Granny for her big hugs, big heart and big smile, even for her tiny stature. They will miss her cute Irish accent, her Easter egg hunts (which always included money), and the fun stuff she'd send from Ireland. They loved when they could make her laugh hysterically and admired that she would help them up the stairs even though she was the one that needed the help. "You can take the girl out of Derry, but you can't take the Derry out of the girl". A service will be held for Bernie in the Spring of 2021 in her hometown of Derry, where she will be reunited with her parents and siblings in her final resting place. If desired, donations in Bernie's memory can be made to the Blairstown Police Department, 106 NJ-94, Blairstown, New Jersey 07825 or the Blairstown Ambulance Corps., 108 NJ-94, Blairstown, New Jersey 07825. Due to the current coronavirus situations, there will be no services at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown, NJ 07825. Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear.
