G. Richard "Dick" Cook, of Blairstown, passed away on November 15, 2018, the same day he celebrated his 70th birthday. Born in 1948, he was the son of the late Frank C. and Ruth (Baldwin) Cook.
Dick was a lifelong resident of Blairstown and a graduate of Blairstown High School. He proudly served as an active, volunteer firefighter for Blairstown Hose Company #1 for 48 years. Dick loved the outdoors and when he wasn't hunting or fishing, he was working in his garden or splitting firewood. He nicknamed himself the "Apparatus Man" as he was a jack of all trades and used a few of his nine lives attempting to fix things himself.
Dick liked to stay busy and as such, had various occupations throughout his life. When he wasn't helping friends and family, he was a teacher, mechanic, contractor, tree man, and especially enjoyed doing anything that included the use of power while his co-workers handled the manual work.
Surviving are his loving wife of 41 years, Becky; son, Ryan Cook (Heather), of Blairstown, N.J.; two daughters, Tina Powers (Ernie) of Wilson, N.C. and Melissa Callahan (Justin) of Quinton, V.A.; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Liam, Tierney, Cailin, Brady, Emery, and Caleigh; a brother, Frank H. Cook (Sharon), of Blairstown, N.J.; a sister, Carol Cook, of Northfield, V.T., and numerous nieces and nephews. Outside of family, Dick was called "Uncle Dick" or "Uncle Buck" by many as no one was a stranger for long.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his cherished niece, Sondi. He will be forever resting in the mountains of Bradford County, P.A. or at least raising some hell with his old hunting buddies that he hasn't seen in many years.
A visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-9 PM, Monday, November 19, 2018 at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown, NJ 07825 with a Fireman's Service held at 8:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blairstown Hose Company #1 at P.O. Box J, Blairstown, N.J. 07825.
