Obituary of Margaret Thomas
Margaret Thomas (née Nolan), age 88, of Columbia, NJ, formerly a long-time resident of Randolph, NJ died peacefully on March 12, 2018 after a long illness at Clover Rest Home, Knowlton New Jersey.
Margaret was born on March 23, 1929 in County Mayo, Ireland, the daughter of Michael and Nora Nolan.
She was blessed with a large family and met her best friend and love of her life, George Theodore Thomas in England in 1949, and who she later married on February 14, 1951. In March of 1952 they immigrated to the United States and began raising their family. He preceded her in death December 29, 1984. Margaret raised her six children with patience, discipline and humility. From the very beginning, she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the Catholic faith. Margaret and George became naturalized citizens in March 1957.
We remember her as a kind, gentle, patient and loving person who was a wonderful cook and always invited others to meals and regular cookouts. She encouraged her family to pursue their goals and provided them with the support needed. She was the best grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was passionate about her Catholic faith and was an active and dedicated member of Sacred Heart Church of Dover, New Jersey for more than 30 years, and later attended St. Jude's, Columbia, New Jersey. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
She is survived by her children and spouses; Nora Thomas (Rudy) Vitche, Jefferson, NJ, Jeanette (John) Kozinski, Becket, Massachusetts, Margaret (David) Lake, Paulinskill Lake, NJ, Adrianne Matos, Lafayette, NJ, and Sharon (Robert) Hladik, Columbia, NJ, as well as 13 grandchildren; Christina Bongiovanni Cooke, Jennifer Bongiovanni Keller, Colene Thomas, David and Christopher Lake, Carly and Dillon Thomas, Alexander and Nora Hladik, Gregory and Dustin Matos, Samantha Thomas, and Monique Vitche, as well as 7 great grandchildren; Juliana Thomas, Alexa and Jovan Ranero, Michael and Zach Keller, Jake Cooke and Hailey Lake; two brothers, John Nolan of Ireland, Michael (Kathleen) Nolan of England and three sisters; Mary Mulqueen of England, Ann Casey of England and Nora Tierney of Ireland as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Thomas Nolan in 1996 and her son George A. Thomas in 2010.
A service will be held at Sacred Heart Church (4 Richards Ave, Dover, NJ 07801) on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 at 10:30AM. The service will be followed by a luncheon. In her memory, donations can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, Sparta NJ. Prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted.
