Obituary of Barry Eldridge

Barry George Eldridge 1940 – 2018, resident of Blairstown, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Newton Memorial Hospital at the age 77. He lost his long battle with Parkinson's disease, but died peacefully surrounded by the family he loved.

Mr. Eldridge was born in Peru, Indiana and attended Hammond High School, where he lettered in three sports. Mr. Eldridge was also a Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Eldridge was a Pioneer in the Long Term Care Industry and an idol to many. He opened Individual Commercial Brokerage (ICB) in 1983 and was a founding member of the National Long Term Care Network (NLTCN).

Prior to opening ICB, Mr Eldridge worked directly for CNA, from 1970 through 1983, as Director of Agencies in the Eastern and Southern Region in Health Sales.

Mr. Eldridge had a desire to mentor and support others to become successful, and many would describe him as "larger than life."

Mr. Eldridge was on many financial planning radio talk shows, giving advice on long-term care. He was a well-known National speaker and educator, speaking at the corporate, state and government levels on the seminar circuit, touting the need for asset protection.

He was also a consultant and on product committees for several major insurance companies, designing and assisting in marketing of long term care products for the future. In addition, Mr. Eldridge was the President of the 1997/1998 CNA Strategy Board and was a past President. Mr. Eldridge was a co-author of 5 books, and was also a contributor to many other publications during his career.

Since Mr. Eldridge's retirement, his son, Rick Eldridge has run ICB. Barry's legacy and passion for asset protection still remain at ICB. He will be greatly missed and was a true legend that made his mark in this industry.

He is survived by his two sons, Rick Eldridge (his wife Rebekah), Jeff Eldridge, his grandson, Travis Eldridge, and two brothers, Bubba and Buzz.

He is predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Thelma, and brother Billy.

A celebration of life event will take place on Saturday March 10, 2018 at the Holiday Inn in Budd Lake, NJ from 12PM to 3PM. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Jessica Bessemer at by February 20th. A ceremony will take place from 12PM – 1PM, followed by a catered lunch honoring Barry.
