Obituary of Yolanda Hovell
Yolanda Hovell, nee Moro, a long-time resident of Berkeley Heights, NJ, died Saturday, January 21, at the Slate Belt Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in Bangor, PA.Born in New York City in 1930, Yolanda shared a Washington Heights childhood with her two older sisters, Eleanor and Alda. Her parents, Eugenio Moro and Emma Bertalot, immigrated to New York from Trieste, Italy. Yolanda cherished her Italian heritage and cultivated life-long ties to her cousins in Trieste and San Germano. She visited the mountainous regions of San Germano and the city of Trieste throughout her life and shared her love of her ancestry with friends and family.
Yolanda met and married WWII Navy veteran Robert Hovell in 1954. Her twins Emily and Robert came along in 1960 followed by her son John in 1962.
Yolanda celebrated all things family and kept in nearly constant contact with relatives across the United States and those abroad. She was an accomplished knitter and anyone who received a blanket or sweater of her creation recognized her talent. She applied the same ingenuity to her professional life and was a valued employee of AT&T for many years.
Yolanda's support of her family was nearly legendary; she never missed a concert, sporting event, or play in which any of her 13 grandchildren was participating.
Yolanda is pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Robert, and son, Rob. She leaves behind her daughter, Emily Carter, of Bangor, PA, and her husband, Jeff; her son, John, of Blairstown, NJ, and his wife, Amy; and her daughter-in-law, Colleen of Gibbsboro, NJ.
