Vera C. DuMont passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 5th, 2018. Vera was born on November 23, 1927 in New York City to the late John and Ada (Pachon) Marforio. She spent the early years of her life on her family's farm outside Paris, France before returning to New York. There, she graduated from Hunter High School and Hunter College in Manhattan. She married Robert E. DuMont in 1960, with whom she raised two children in Boonton Township, New Jersey. She then worked for twenty years for the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation in Morristown, New Jersey, until she retired in 1999. She later moved to Blairstown, NJ, and successfully dedicated herself to working with Genesis Farm and local farmers to obtain funding for the Foodshed Alliance, a grass-roots nonprofit devoted to the production and sale of local organic foods. In 2007, she was awarded the Purpose Prize by the Encore Organization for this work. In recent years, Vera coordinated the Memorial Program at Genesis Farm, a place that she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. DuMont and her parents, John and Ada Marforio. She is survived by her children, Mark DuMont and Lisa DuMont, her daughter-in-law, Kimberly DuMont, her brother-in-law, William Belkin, her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Belkin, her grandchildren, Jackson and Alexander DuMont, her nieces, Jane and Lana Belkin, her partner, Walter Linder, and many loving friends and colleagues. There will be a public ceremony in her memory at Genesis Farm, 41A Silver Lake Road, Blairstown, NJ 07825 on Saturday, April 28th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Genesis Farm or to Antler Ridge Wildlife Sanctuary, 52 County Road 661, Newton, NJ 07860.
