Veronica Billows (Czerniecki), 89, of Great Meadows passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 2nd, two days shy of her ninetieth birthday with her two daughters at her bedside. A lifelong resident of Warren County, Veronica grew up in Hope, later moving to Great Meadows upon marrying the love of her life, the late John D. Billows. The couple made their home at the residence in which John was born 100 years ago last week. Veronica was employed by the Mars Corporation in Hackettstown for much of her life while she and John raised their daughters, Catherine Day and Elizabeth Shea. A woman of strong faith, Veronica was a long-time parishioner of Saint Jude's Roman Catholic Church in Blairstown. She was predeceased by both of her brothers, Eugene and Joseph Czerniecki, as well as her husband of over six decades. He was a former Independence Township Police Officer and founding member of the Independence Township Volunteer Fire Department, agencies that remain near and dear to the family. In addition to her daughters, Veronica leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Sophie and Richard Allen, her loving grandson and granddaughter-in-law Rourke and Kelsey Day, a four-year-old great-grandson whom she adored, Jackson Day, nine nieces and nephews, and her faithful, four-legged Yellow Lab companion, Jake.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 8th at 10:30am at Saint Jude's, 7 Eisenhower Road in Blairstown with burial to follow at the Pequest Union Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 RT. 94, Blairstown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Independence First Aid Squad, PO Box 137, Great Meadows, NJ 07838 for their most faithful service to Veronica over the years, or the very compassionate services of Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860.
