Carl S. Race Jr. 83 years of age of Blairstown, NJ., passed away on Sunday August 20, 2017 in Newton Medical Center, Newton, NJ. A longtime resident of the area, he was born in Vineland, NJ. to the late Carl and Flora Chew Race. He was a farmer, owner and operator of Race Farm in Blairstown. He and his wife Joyce opened the Race Farm Stand of Route 94 in Blairstown.
When he first moved to this area he lived in Hardwick Twp. where he served on the township committee and was the former mayor. He later moved to Blairstown and again served on its township committee from 1980 to 1988 and was the mayor from1982 to 1985. While on the committee he served on the Board of Health, Recreation Committee and Planning Board and as Road Commissioner. From 1986 to 1987 he was the town Police Commissioner. Carl was also a former active member of Blairstown Rotary Club.
He received many awards during his life time, such as the Warren County Board of Agriculture Distinguished Service Award in 1999, Cooperator of the year 1984 from the Warren County Soil Conservation District and a 1984 Award of Merit for Outstanding Accomplishments in resource conservation.
He is survived , in addition to his wife Joyce, three sons Carl III of Craig, Col., Douglas of Blairstown and Philip of Belvidere. Also his sister Lois Eckler of Stanton, VA. along with ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Virginia
There will be a memorial period of visitation on Friday August 25, 2017 from 2 - 4 and 6-8 PM at the Newbaker Funeral Home. 200 RT. 94, Blairstown, NJ.
