Julie L. Steven

Julie Steven, daughter of the late Benjamin Gyure and Elizabeth Kajla Gyure and wife of the late Frank Steven, died at her home in Hope, NJ on April 22nd 2017. She was 94 years old.

Born in Carteret, NJ she was a graduate of Carteret High School and Rider College as well as a student at Juliard School of Music in New York City where she studied to be a concert violinist.

Originally employed by Merck & Co., Inc. as an executive secretary, she later became administrative assistant to Thomas K. Wood, CEO of Potters Industries Inc., now P.Q. Corp., in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. She retired in 1984 after 24 years. She and Frank, longtime residents of Rutherford, NJ then moved to Hope to the home that they had built.

She became involved in a number of organizations in Hope over the years notably: H.O.P.E., Hope Historical Society, Hope Preservation Commission and Hope Environmental Commission.

She was a longtime member of the CSG at Genesis Farm, Blairstown, a devout parishioner of St. Jude Church, also in Blairstown. She was an avid reader, movie, theater and concert goer, an excellent baker and an enthusiastic participant in the Young at Heart classes at Flex Fitness in Panther Valley, NJ where she made many wonderful friends over the years.

She is survived by her son, Mark F. Steven, of Beverly Hills, Florida, her daughter Roberta S. Rosenberg and her husband Neil of Hope, NJ, her two grandsons Ross Rosenberg of Stroudsburg PA and Evan Rosenberg of Hackettstown, NJ, her brother Ernest Gyure of Franklin, NH and his two daughters Elizabeth Gyure of Concord, NH and Kathy Gyure Kramer of Dayton, OH, her devoted former daughter in-law Elinor B. Smith of Red Bank, NJ and her two children Matthew Weimar and Wendy Weimar Mullen, both of Portland, OR, Karin W. Rohrer of Nottingham, NH who she always referred to as "my third daughter," and a number of nieces and nephews, in particular Carol Hutnik of Lake Pleasant, NY and Juliette Cheh of Fords, NJ who always kept in touch with her. Her second daughter, Nancy, passed away in 1979.

She will be greatly missed by all of her family and also by the many dear friends who were such a special and important part of her life.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Jude Church in Blairstown, NJ on Saturday, June 10th at 11:00am, with burial of her ashes in the Hope Moravian Cemetery in Hope, NJ following the mass. A memorial luncheon will follow the burial at her daughter's home in Hope.
